Where We Stayed: Pier One Sydney Harbour

We stayed at Pier One Sydney Harbour (Marriott), which was an incredible waterfront location built directly out over the harbour alongside the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The hotel made it effortless to walk almost everywhere, we could easily stroll right over to Circular Quay, take in the views of the water from our doorstep, and explore the nearby historic lanes.

Darlinghurst & Llankelly Place

Unlike the hustle of Melbourne, Sydney felt refreshingly unhurried and not overly loud. We spent a wonderful afternoon exploring Darlinghurst and taking a walk down Llankelly Place.

  • Sidewalk Cafes & Lunch: It’s a super cute area packed with independent shops, leafy streets, and sidewalk cafes lining the pedestrian laneway where we enjoyed lunch outdoors.
  • Architecture: Walking around, you immediately notice the heavy British influence in the names and historical architecture—something that felt unique compared to the rest of the cities we visited.

Harbor Views & Circular Quay

  • Circular Quay Waterfront: The waterfront around Circular Quay has an unbelievable vibe, especially in the evening. We had dinner right on the water at Luna Lu, taking in the bustling harbor lights and stunning setting.
  • Harbour Bridge Walk: Since Pier One sits directly below the bridge, taking a walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge was super convenient and gave us sweeping views of the entire bay and skyline.

The Ferry to Manly Beach & Hugo’s

Taking the public Manly Ferry Service over to Manly Beach is an absolute must-do trip.

  • Harbor Views: Even if you aren’t spending the whole day on the sand, take the ferry just for the ride itself—it offers the single best vantage point of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge from the water.
  • Hugo’s at Manly Wharf: Once off the ferry, we stopped at Hugo’s Manly right on Manly Wharf for drinks and dining right on the water.
  • New England Vibe: The area around Manly feels surprisingly like a classic New England seaside village, filled with cute shops and coastal cafes along the water.

The Sydney Opera House
